Virginia Beach Wedding Photographer: Julianna & Josh’s Engagement Session at First Landing State Park

As a Virginia Beach wedding photographer, I’m all about sessions that feel natural and reflect the couple’s style. Julianna and Josh booked my Your Day Package, which includes 8 hours of wedding coverage and a free engagement session. It’s a great way to hang out before the wedding, figure out what makes people comfortable in front of the camera, and just get a feel for how we’ll work together on the big day.

Julianna wanted trees and nature, so we went with First Landing State Park. It was hot, the mosquitoes were aggressive, but we laughed through it and kept going. That’s really the key—if you’re having a good time, it shows.

These two were easygoing and the cutest. I enjoyed collaborating with them.  Engagement shoots are also helpful for me to learn what a couple likes—whether they’re more playful, laid-back, or into the posed moments—so I can tailor the wedding coverage to fit them.

I had a little crew with me —Ashley, who hauled and helped me with my lighting since I was utilizing off camera flash, and Annabelle, who helped capture video for DNA Studios social media. Damien and I enjoy teaching and sharing tips with other creatives, so there’s always space for that on our sets.
