Hey friends! As you know, we are a married couple who are also wedding photographers in Norfolk, VA. However, we also travel! We were thrilled to road trip to capture a stunning wedding in Alexandria, VA. This event, hosted at the historic Carlyle House, was elegant and fit the couple well. The Carlyle House, with its rich history and picturesque garden, was perfect for the ceremony. The couple’s vows was exchanged in a pergola surrounded by family and friends. They were intimate and heartfelt. The whole setting was very romantic.
Following the ceremony, we took advantage of the location with its fountain, architecture, and greenery to capture some creative photos. The natural light was pretty harsh, but we used it to our advantage while also incorporating flash photography. There were also several places in the shade we utilized. We did a mix of candid documentary shots and editorial-style portraits. Both Damien and I had a great time with the bride and groom, as they were fun to work with. Damien shot with his 70-200mm lens while I worked with my 16-35mm. This helps provide diversity in the couple’s album. In addition to the outdoor photos, we also explored opportunities within the hotel and its lobby area. We played off the interiors provided for some editorial-style portraits, adding a touch of “high fashion” to the couple’s wedding album.
The reception was held at the trendy Hummingbird Bar and Kitchen, a venue that perfectly matched the couple’s style. The atmosphere was inviting, the speeches shared were tear jerkers, and the food was superb!
The newlyweds had opted for our “Your Day” package, which included 8 hours of coverage, 2 photographers, and a complimentary engagement session. This package allowed us to capture every important moment, from the preparations to the final dance, ensuring that no detail was missed. The engagement session had also been a great opportunity to get to know the couple better and understand their vision for the wedding day.
