Hey friends! Those of you who follow us know we are Virginia documentary wedding photographers with an editorial flare! This October, we traveled to Valley Mills Farm in Swoop, Virginia to celebarte and photograph the Garrison Wedding!
This couple chose our “Your Day Package” and added extra hours to ensure every moment was covered. We’re happy to customize packages to fit the unique needs of each wedding!
GETTING READY
To start, Damien and I split up. While I joined the bride and her bridesmaids in a charming house for their preparations, Damien captured the groom and groomsmen as they got ready. I highly recomment going with one of our packages that offers 2 photographers! You will get greater coverage, different perspectives, and various lens use that creates for a more diverse album.
For the most part, everything was smooth, except the bride’s dress ripped just before the ceremony! However, they were prepared! With quick thinking, some creativity, and a small sowing kit, they managed a fast fix.
THE CEREMONY & RECEPTION
The ceremony was held in a picturesque open area behind the house. This was the first time the bride and groom saw each other. We’ve noticed this is a big trend these days. Brides do first look with their fathers, and not their significant other. They like to be seen for the first time as they are walking down the isle. Personally, I can see how it would make it more special.
The reception was a lively affair, with guests eager to hit the dance floor. Capturing the energy of the evening was effortless with such an engaged crowd. We incorporated off-camera flash and rear curtain sync to create that shutter drag with the lights, adding a dynamic flair to the reception photos.
SEND OFF
The couple ended their celebration with a sparkler exit after having their private last dance together. It was a great finale to a beautiful and eventful day. We were tired, but it was fun!
This wedding was part of a double-header weekend for us in October, a month filled with back-to-back bookings. While it often means long days in the wedding industry, it’s also incredibly rewarding. We’re so grateful for the couples who trust us to document their love stories.
